C1880 Sheffield Silver Plate Epergne Cut Glass Bowls by Deakin. A fine Victorian Sheffield silver plate and cut crystal bowls epergne, decorated in a neo-classical style. The silver plate base rests on 3 pedestal feet in the shape of grotesque heads, surmounted with 3 large cast Seahorses.
Their tails fuse with the central column which has a sconce on which rests a shallow diamond cut bowl and a tall cut crystal flute on top. The underside of the base has the marks for James Deakin & Sons, of Sheffield.The epergne, which dates from about 1880, is in really good condition. James Deakin founded the company in 1866, at Sidney Works. In 1886 it became known as James Deakin and Sons. Further offices were opened in London, Chester and Birmingham, Glasgow and Belfast. Condition is very good, with little or no wear to the silver plate.
